In what clinical settings do you work?

Outpatient clinic, operating room, emergency room/trauma bay, and inpatient wards

What makes your job so special?

The fellowship provides me with opportunity to practice overseas in Malawi and Haiti and to gain experience with surgical care in poor resource settings.

What is a typical day and week in your practice?

It typically starts with morning team signout, rounding on the admitted patients, and then either spending the day in the operating room or clinic.

Most rewarding aspect of your specialty?

Performing life-changing and lifesaving surgeries.

Most challenging aspect of your specialty?

You never expect what comes through the door as an acute care and trauma surgeon.

Any unique challenges faced in your specialty?

Providing surgical care in a timely and efficient manner

What is the lifestyle (work-life balance) of a physician in your specialty?

The work hours are long, but rewarding.

Did you do any additional fellowship training after and why?

Global surgery fellowship; I’m heading towards long term overseas missions.
